The Fourth of July is finally upon us! That means it’s time to head to the pool, watch some fireworks and put that grill of yours to good use. Here at SA Woman, we’re all about fun, festive meals that are easy to assemble, yummy enough to make your mouth water, and pretty enough to pass the ‘Gram test. Our team of highly skilled chefs – aka ladies with access to Pinterest and a few delicious family recipes – has put together some Fourth of July fare that you can mix together, toss on an open flame, and enjoy under the light of an illuminated San Antonio sky to celebrate the amazing country we live in. Happy Fourth from all of us!
Chilton:
Start your night off right with a refreshing lime Chilton. Mix the ingredients together and garnish with mint, a fresh lime, and, in honor of San Antonio, a little bit of spicy Chamoy on your rim!
- 1 cup lime vodka
- 1 cup tonic water
- ¼ cup fresh lime juice
- ¼ cup simple syrup
- mint leaves
- lime wedge
- chamoy rim
Jalapeño Poppers:
If spice is what you’re looking for, go no further than grilled Jalapeño Poppers wrapped in bacon. These little guys are mouthwatering, and so easy to assemble: Slice and seed your pepper, put a dollop of cream cheese and whatever else you desire (fajita meat is always good, but we really enjoy them with refried beans), wrap that baby up in bacon and throw it on the grill until done. Long live the Popper.
- 12 jalapeños
- 12 bacon strips
- ¼ cup cream cheese
- 1/8 teaspoon cumin
- 1/8 teaspoon chili powder
- 1 tablespoon cilantro, minced
- 1 tablespoon green onions, sliced
- ¼ cup refried beans
Street Corn:
It’s summer in San Antonio, which means there’s no better side dish than some street corn. Whether you like it shucked and in a bowl, or straight off the cob, all you have to do is grill it and cover it in seasoning, sauce and queso fresco. #Blessed.
- 6 grilled corn cobs
- 2-3 tablespoons mayonnaise
- 2-3 tablespoons sour cream
- 1 tablespoon lime juice
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- cayenne pepper
- salt & pepper to taste
- ¼ cup queso fresco
- ¼ cup fresh cilantro
Red, White and Blue Fajitas:
You didn’t think we were going to pass up the opportunity to get creative with our color scheme, did you? What says America more than blue corn tortillas, some sizzling chicken fajita meat, and a generous helping of red peppers and salsa? Nothing, that’s what.
- Blue corn tortillas
- Fajita chicken (you can buy this pre-seasoned at HEB!)
- Sour cream
- Red bell peppers
- Queso Fresco
- Cilantro
- Salsa
- Pica de gallo
- Lime wedge
Buñuelos with Ice Cream and Berries:
Finish the night strong with a traditional Mexican Buñuelo, covered in cinnamon and served with vanilla ice cream. Toss in some sweet raspberries and tart blueberries, and you’ve got yourself one patriotic pastry.
- Buñuelos (already fried from HEB)
- Vanilla Blue Bell ice cream
- Blueberries
- Raspberries or strawberries
Have a fun and safe Fourth of July! Stay cool, San Antonio…
