J. Philippus Art Studio & Gallery Breaks into the Local Art Scene
Jeanne Philippus
San Antonio artist Jeanne Philippus unveils new studio and gallery featuring unique hands-on classes and custom art.
Jeanne Philippus grew up on a farm in Shiner, Texas. Inspired by her father’s love of art, she developed her own style using leftover paint and items she found on the farm. In her late twenties, Jeanne lost her husband to cancer after only a few short years of marriage. While grieving, Jeanne began incorporating broken glass in her art as a metaphor for life. Creating art from the broken and discarded materials was a crucial part of her healing process. Combining acrylics, resins, and recycled glass, Jeanne began creating unique art that set the stage for her future career.
Jeanne developed her own unique art style incorporating leftover paint, miscellaneous items, and broken glass. Her art studio utilizes glass bottles and other items that are upcycled from local San Antonio businesses and residents. Over the years, she has developed close relationships with her customers. Many of these customers view her classes as a form of therapy – a way to escape from reality, even if it is for a short period.
For the second year in a row, Jeanne was a featured artist of all original art in the “Robare Custom Home” at the 2021 San Antonio Parade of Homes. She is the only artist to have her artwork chosen to completely adorn one of the model homes.
“Every day, I have the chance to live out my life’s passion of creating art and bringing new creations to those around me,” said Jeanne Philippus, President, and Artist of J. Philippus Art Studio & Gallery. “As a studio and art gallery owner, I want visitors to feel confident that they too can create a stunning work of art from a blank canvas.”
New class concepts are constantly being added to her calendar. For fall, she will be featuring a pumpkin art class and a fall-themed charcuterie board class. Jeanne often offers discounts, promotions, and special events through her social media feeds and newsletters.
From contemporary to abstract, Jeanne believes you don’t need to be an artist to create your own beautiful piece of art. There is no concept that is too complex to create, and Jeanne and her team provide hands-on guidance along the way.
