How often should patients visit their dentist? 

As a pediatric dental provider, we recommend establishing a dental home for our young patients as soon as their first tooth comes in and no later than their first birthday. This allows us to focus on prevention and education. We now know that this reduces the amount of dental treatment and the financial burden that comes with it. Based on each child’s individual need, the recommendation would be at least twice per year or even more frequent if the child is at higher risk or has had trauma.

What are your primary goals in patient care? 

My goal is to treat each child as if it were one of my own boys sitting in the chair. We emphasize prevention and education and provide compassionate care while making the dental visit fun for each child in a friendly atmosphere. 

How do you approach patients with dental anxiety?

Dentistry can be scary for our little friends, so it is important for us to take an individualized approach for each patient. We start by creating a friendly and kid-focused atmosphere. If our young patients are very anxious, the first visit may just be a “happy visit” to meet the team and establish rapport. For treatment needs, we offer minimally invasive options as well as laughing gas, oral sedation, and IV sedation options.

What professional degrees do you hold, and from what schools? 

I received a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, LA, and my Doctorate of Dental Surgery from the Louisiana State University School of Dentistry. I completed my pediatric dentistry residency at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center in San Antonio.

Are you a member of any dental associations or professional societies?

I am a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and a member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, Texas Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, San Antonio Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, The American Dental Association, Texas Dental Association, and San Antonio District Dental Society.
