At 19 years old, Erin Salinas took a job as an administrative assistant for a geotechnical engineering firm before growing into a marketing role. She remained committed to this endeavor for years, all the while knowing she could do more. Her professional big break came eight-and-a-half years later when an owner of KFW Engineers & Surveying asked Erin to establish the company’s Business Development and Marketing Department.

It was an opportunity she couldn’t pass up. “I grew up in the industry because my father was in the engineering industry for almost 40 years,” Salinas said. “So, I was always fascinated with it. I definitely did not plan on this, but once I was in it, I never left.”

As Director of Business Development and Marketing for San Antonio’s second-largest civil engineering firm, Salinas, now 33, is responsible for maintaining client relations. She builds relationships and ensures each client’s vision for their operations and businesses become a reality. These commercial real estate projects include hospitality, multi-family, retail, office, and health care, among others. Salinas also manages KFW’s team of marketing professionals.

Salinas is proud of KFW’s role in the Ruby City contemporary art museum, the life-long conception of the late artist and philanthropist Linda Pace. Salinas was accountable for making sure the project’s design processes went smoothly and ensuring all clients’ and partners’ satisfaction. Further illustrating Salinas’ key impacts, she helped launch KFW Foundation, the company’s nonprofit, which concentrates its charitable efforts on poverty alleviation, education, and inclusion.

The KFW Foundation aims to “enhance the community we help engineer.” One way this is exemplified is through their continued support of Morgan’s Wonderland, an amusement park where everyone can be included regardless of age, special need, or disability.

As a UTSA graduate with a bachelor’s degree in business administration who never intended to break into the engineering industry, Salinas said the past 15 years have been an exciting ride.

“I love being part of the development of San Antonio,” she said. “I have one of the best jobs, meeting people all the time and working with them while helping to bring their projects visions come to life.”
