The San Antonio community will rally to inspire others to join the purple movement to end cancer.
WHAT: Community members and cancer advocates from throughout the San Antonio area will come together to rally against cancer in support of American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life. The public is invited to an evening of fun, food, prizes, fundraisers, cancer awareness, and, most importantly, to learn how to get involved in the fight back against cancer.
WHEN: Saturday, April 9, 2016 from 6-8 P.M.
WHERE: Corner Bakery Café at Alamo Quarry Market, 255 E. Basse Rd, SA, TX 78209
In the evening, the smoke stacks will be lit in purple and luminaria bags will be lit to remember and/or honor those who have battled cancer.
Twyla Varnado, 50, our 2016 San Antonio area Relay For Life Hero of Hope will share her cancer survival story and why it’s important to fundraise for the American Cancer Society. She’s been cancer-free for two-and-a-half years and passionate about raising awareness of colon cancer and critical funds to support lifesaving cancer research and free programs and services provided by the American Cancer Society.
Participating retail stores will offer a portion of sales to support the American Cancer Society and decorate their store fronts in purple. Amy’s Ice Creams will create a special purple ice cream for the rally.
For all those touched by cancer, purple is more than a color. It represents hope and embodies the power and promise of the American Cancer Society Relay For Life movement. This year, we want to take the purple movement to more people and spread our message further. We want to paint the world purple so that cancer never steals another life. Every team, every survivor, and every dollar raised can help us save more lives from cancer.
