Rosser states, “My latest series of paintings seek to to create a paradoxical yet harmonious dream-like realm. Inspired by flora, fauna, and especially my two dogs Chico and Cooper, the animals and flowers in these paintings are abstracted representations of local, and exotic species. Images are formed by paint, torn pieces of paper, metallic leaf, and other found materials and collaged and painted onto canvas and Plexiglas. My style of painting can be described as intentionally primitive but uniquely stylized. This allegorical body of work is directly influenced by Edward Hicks series, “The Peaceable Kingdom” originally created sometime between 1780 and 1849, Hicks series of paintings sought to represent an idyllic world where domestic and wild beast existed in a harmonious realm. The “Peaceable Kingdom” was influenced by a single biblical passage, ‘The wolf shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the young calf and the young lion and fatling together; and a little child shall lead them….’ Isaiah 11:6-9. Like Hicks, I dream of a perfect world where harmony, love and beauty reign supreme.”Screen Shot 2016-04-08 at 10.03.12 AM
